Antica Locanda dei Mercanti
If you are looking for a hotel that is well priced in the expensive city of Milan, the Antica Locanda dei Mercanti is a good choice. Not that it has all the trappings of a deluxe city hotel–there is no elaborate lounge, no noisy bar, no fancy restaurant, no expensive boutiques. Instead there is an intimate counter with a receptionist who offers a warm welcome and shows you to your room.
For the price, you would expect minimum accommodations, but, instead, all of the guest rooms are quite attractive. Although no two are alike, they are tastefully decorated and each room has fresh flowers.
The least expensive rooms are fairly small but the rooms in the next category up are more spacious. Request a room either on the second or third floors. At the top of the list are four air conditioned rooms with private rooftop garden terraces. The location is excellent – just a five minute walk to the Duomo, a five minute walk to the Castello, and a few blocks to La Scala.
